Carola Schouten, born Cornelia Johanna Carola Schouten on October 6, 1977, in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, is a politician known for her work with the Christian Union party.

Political Career

Schouten's political career began with her service as an alderman for the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland from 2006 to 2011. In 2011, she was elected to the House of Representatives, where she served until 2017. During her tenure, she held various positions, including spokesperson on social affairs and deputy parliamentary leader.

Ministerial Roles

In 2017, Schouten was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, a position she held until 2022. She was responsible for policies related to agriculture, fisheries, and environmental conservation. As Minister, she played a key role in promoting sustainable farming practices and advocating for animal welfare.
Departure from Politics
In September 2022, Schouten announced her decision to leave national politics after twelve years of service. As a member of the ChristenUnie party, she held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and caretaker Minister for Poverty Policy.
