Eckes-Granini recalls fruit drink
Strawberry and cherry varieties of Granini fruit drink were affected by a production error
Eckes-Granini is recalling strawberry and cherry varieties of its Granini fruit drink due to a production error. The affected products have a best-before date of May 2024 and were sold in Germany and other European countries. Consumers are advised not to consume the affected products and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The company said that the error occurred during the production process, which resulted in the products containing elevated levels of patulin, a mycotoxin that can be harmful to human health. Patulin is produced by certain types of molds that can grow on fruits and vegetables. Symptoms of patulin poisoning can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
Eckes-Granini said that it is working with authorities to investigate the cause of the error and to prevent it from happening again. The company said that it regrets any inconvenience caused to its customers and that it is committed to providing safe and high-quality products.
